Nobody likes it when they get locked out of their hotel room. This information tells you what to do if the "unthinkable" happens. It addresses the problem of sleepwalking and/or finding yourself "less than fully clothed." It is also aimed mainly at men, but women may find some of the information useful as well.

Steps
Assess the situation. Are you okay to be seen in public? The following are okay: Dressing gowns, and anything similar - as long as you are wearing pants or shorts. The following are embarrasing, but still legal: towel, underwear. In most places, being completely naked is illegal.
If you are okay to be seen in public, go to reception and ask for a key to your room.
If you are not okay to be seen in public, think. Are you alone on your trip? Is there anybody else who came? If there is, go to their room and knock on the door.
If there is no one else to help, look for a phone. Some hotels have payphones and other phones you can use to call reception. Explain the situation and ask them to send somebody up.
If you can't find a phone, look for something you can use to wear. A coat on a door, a towel, anything. Go to reception with this.
If you can't find anything to wear, look for something to cover yourself up with. A plant pot, a newspaper, or anything that "fits."
If you can't find anything to cover yourself, and there are no other options, use the stairs to go to reception and poke your head around the door. Call for help.
If there is no door, poke your head around the wall, or whatever there is.
If you cannot see the receptionist from there, take a deep breath, put your hands where you need them to be, and run to the receptionist.
Pray to God that there is nobody else there.
Ask for a key.
Tips
If you are prone to sleepwalking, try tying a key around your ankle, or hiding it somewhere in the hall.
There may be a laundry room. If there is, look for something you can "cover up" with.
There may be a bathroom on your floor. Use paper towels from there.
Warnings
In most places, steps 7 to 11 are illegal.
Don't get into an elevator. Somebody may get on, and there is no way of controlling how the doors open. They could open to hundreds of people.
Don't knock on random doors. This may lead to screaming, which will lead to everybody seeing what is wrong, which will lead to large humiliation and the possibility of you being arrested.
